As Christmas Day is fast approaching and you finish up all of your holiday shopping, it is important to keep in mind the reason for the season. Sure, you are constantly reminded of it, sing about it, and decorate your house with all of its abodes, but do you truly understand it? It’s a day of thanks to the Good Lord, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. Remember, Jesus was a human just like us. He was born, not once, but twice, and has breathed the same air as us. This is a day of remembrance of Him, not only as a Saviour, but as a mere mortal who mourned because He knew His fate.
Psalm 22:1-3
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning?
O my God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, and am not silent.
Yet you are enthroned as the Holy One; you are the praise of Israel. [1]”
This time of year has always been my favorite time, because we are not mourning the death of our Saviour, but rejoicing in the birth of Him! I always love to go out into my barn and being reminded of how He was born in a stable! The King of kings, the Lord of all was born in a dirty barn, surrounded by His earthly parents, the Lord, an angel, and three wise men. He didn’t ask to be born on a golden bed or asked to have wealth untold delivered to Him, but accepted His destiny and His parents! The same cannot be said about many people nowadays. Just about everybody wants fame, fortune, or other worldly treasures. This is why it is a season of thanks, not a season of asking. We are thankful that we have a roof over our head. We are thankful for food on our plate. We are thankful, above all else, for a breath of life to continue our journey with family and friends.
It is amazing how quickly we seem to forget the little things in life that set up the stage for big things. Just as Jesus was a babe in a manager, we are children in Christ learning how to live our lives with Him! So be thankful that we get to worship Him unlike many other countries and celebrate HIS day! I would also like to add, that it drives me crazy when people put Xmas. Do you not not have time to jot down those 6 letters that make the season what it is? Please give Him the glory he deserves!
Matthew 10:32-33
“Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.”
