There is this new term I recently learned called hummingbird. I am not talking about the term referring to the sweet, little bird, but another one used by nurses when treating patients close to death. Many hospice nurses use this term to describe patients that are near death and could pass away in the next minute, hour, or week. Whenever all of these patients are near the end, they are wanting to gather with family, friends, or the new found nurse friends they have made to gain closure and make sure their last affairs are in place. One thing that I have noticed with all of these patients, is that they seem to see something that strikes them with awe before they pass. Some begin to reach out and smile when they realize what is coming. Other are struck with fear and almost seem to go through flashes of past consequences during their lifetime and may even begin to cling to their earthly body to avoid what is ahead. Every person is different, but the same can be said for them all-they all have seen the will of God and are entering into one of the two kingdoms. This is the last stage of their life, that is their earthly life, before the enter into either kingdom. It is so important for us to realize this in younger years before we grow to be old and full of regret. Those who are not believers can agree that everyone sees something before they pass. So as believers, we must prove to them that it is the Good Lord showing them these visions or memories. Almost everyone nowadays is so busy and lives by the motto, “live fast, die young”, that we let life pass us by and we don’t always focus on the big picture, but all the little things of today. If we start to dedicate a little bit of our time everyday, we can begin to grow our confidence in Jesus and help bring others to Him. To put this into perspective, think of a hummingbird. They are small, but fast, and live for about 3-5 years. They are constantly zooming around and moving from place to place. However, they still find time to find a feeder and drink from it. They’re always filled with this sugary water, that is so sweet they come for more. We must be like the hummingbird. We must make time to drink this sugary water, or in other words the living water. This living water represents our fellowship with God and Jesus. This fellowship is so sweet and good that we come back for more. With word of mouth, we can bring others to drink this living water and save them from being one of those that will suffer from an ill fate on their deathbed. So please keep in mind that we are all hummingbirds, rushing around rapidly, so we must choose what our faith will be-one that includes God and the holy way or one that follows the path of hatred and ignorance.

“I assure you that whoever hears my word and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life and won’t come under judgment but has passed from death into life.”
John 4:13-14
“Jesus answered, ‘Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks from the water that I will give will never be thirsty again. The water that I give will become in those who drink it a spring of water that bubbles up into eternal life.’”
This last scripture points out the sugar water that we need to drink. We must drink this water and want more of it so that we may not die, but have eternal life.
