I recently learned an interesting thing about rainbows. I know what you’re thinking, how could you be thinking about rainbows while Israel is falling? Well, I’ll tell you why. I recently found out that rainbows never actually touch the ground. They are perfect halos in the sky that seem to float above all of humanity. This made me think of God’s promise about the rainbow.
Genesis 9:13-16
“13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.
14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds,
15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.
16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.”
The rainbow is a covenant, a promise, a perfect, unwavering agreement that the Lord has made. He has not broken this covenant, nor will He. Many say that the reason why angels have halos is because they are banded, like with a wedding ring, with the promise of serving the Lord. The rainbow is a promise, a halo! Believe it or not, this actually ties into the promise of Israel!
Zechariah 12:8-9
“On that day the Lord will protect the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the feeblest among them on that day shall be like David, and the house of David shall be like God, like the angel of the Lord, going before them. And on that day I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.”
This is the Lord’s promise! He will protect those that transgress against Jerusalem! He made Jerusalem an un-moveable, coveted city that shall not be torn down.
Zechariah 12:1-6
“The oracle of the word of the Lord concerning Israel: Thus declares the Lord, who stretched out the heavens and founded the earth and formed the spirit of man within him: “Behold, I am about to make Jerusalem a cup of staggering to all the surrounding peoples. The siege of Jerusalem will also be against Judah. On that day I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples. All who lift it will surely hurt themselves. And all the nations of the earth will gather against it. On that day, declares the Lord, I will strike every horse with panic, and its rider with madness. But for the sake of the house of Judah I will keep my eyes open, when I strike every horse of the peoples with blindness. Then the clans of Judah shall say to themselves, ‘The inhabitants of Jerusalem have strength through the Lord of hosts, their God.’
“On that day I will make the clans of Judah like a blazing pot in the midst of wood, like a flaming torch among sheaves. And they shall devour to the right and to the left all the surrounding peoples, while Jerusalem shall again be inhabited in its place, in Jerusalem.”
I know that these are scary times, but with the Lord will lead the way, He always has. Please remember that even with all of the turmoil in the world, we know where our final destination is. Again with the rainbow, though it may seem short lived and far away, will always resurface after the rain. This can be seen with the war right now. Sure it has to rain for a little bit, but the rainbow will come, just like a promise, and the sun will soon shine again.
